The Greenwatch Institute, Inc. is a 501 (c)(4) environmental corporation whose funds are managed with the goal of supporting study, research, litigation, professional education, and the acquisition of land in furtherance of environmental protection and preservation in the Delaware River watershed.
Our vision is to preserve a healthy and sustainable Delaware River watershed where people and nature can thrive today and into tomorrow.
The Delaware Estuary stretches from Trenton, New Jersey, and Morrisville, Pennsylvania, south to Cape May, New Jersey, and Cape Henlopen, Delaware. It includes all of the Delaware Bay and the tidal reaches of the Delaware River.
The Delaware is the longest undammed river east of the Mississippi, flowing freely for 330 miles from New York state to the Atlantic Ocean. The river’s 13,539 square mile watershed supplies water to over 15 million people.
The Delaware Bay area hosts the second largest population of migrating shore birds in North America. Sanderling, Sandpiper, Red Knot, and Ruddy Turnstone arrive from South America in May to rest and feed along the shores.
